If you’re a Mac user and you have purchased any of our Lightroom 5 DVD’s from Amazon, here’s a tip for you.
Our current crop of LR5 DVD’s were mastered and produced before Apple updated Mountain Lion to 10.8.5, and the videos played fine in Safari from the DVD’s at that time. But starting with 10.8.5, Apple changed the way “Security” settings for the Flash player work when running content from certain types of local discs, such as from a DVD. So to view the Flash videos on our DVD’s using Safari versions 6.1 and later (which is installed with Mountain Lion 10.8.5, Mavericks, etc., …), you must first change your Safari Security Preferences.

Of course, our DVD’s also contain a full set of HTML5 video pages as well as the Flash content, and compatibility for HTML5 video has been growing rapidly. Our HTML5 video implementation runs great from our DVD’s in Google Chrome and Safari on the Mac, and in Chrome, Firefox and IE on Windows 7 and 8. So honestly, the easiest fix for Mac users is to simply switch over to the HTML5 versions. (Interestingly, Firefox will stream our HTML5 content over the internet, but it suffers the same “security” problems as Safari on the Mac when running from a DVD. Unfortunately, I do not yet have a fix for that.)
But if you like the Flash interface, click the link and follow the instructions, and you’ll be back up and running with Safari before you know it. Or, just try Google Chrome. :-)
